How To Come To A Non Lethal Conflict Resolution

By Serena Price

Violence is never the best way to resolve conflicts. Showing power or might to settle a dispute is just a barbaric method that has already been phased out. To people of the modern world, it is better to follow the steps to a non lethal conflict resolution. Here are the steps that the person can use to resolve an issue without violence.

First of all, be sure to cool down. They have to resolve their conflicts when they are not angry anymore. They should make sure to avoid having to face each other when either one or both is angry. Doing so when there is extreme tension might aggravate the situation. The situation might become irreparable if they insist on this too.

The issue should be properly described. The party involved with the issue should be able to describe it using their own words. They have to describe how the other party acted and how they reacted to it. Each party will have a different view on this issue. They should never say that a single person's account is wrong.

There is surely a reason behind the issue. It is important for all involved to describe what happened why this issue became a big one. Describe the first thing that happened in detail, in one's own words. It might be that this problem stemmed from a minor disagreement or difference in opinion.

It should be a given for the two parties to describe what they feel when the issue was raised. Each party will have a different reaction to the issue, after all. Of course, each party should make use of their own words when describing their own feelings. Be honest about everything. There should be no blaming allowed at this point too.

It is only natural for people to listen to the other party when the latter is talking. Do so carefully and respectfully. This is the best way to resolve this issue in a calm and adult-like manner. They have to make sure to understand what the other party is saying. Do not interrupt when the other party is talking too.

It is also a given to brainstorm a solution for the issue. Everyone might be trying to come up with solutions and that is okay. In fact, it is highly recommended to be creative. Try to affirm with each other's ideas or be open to other ideas too. Go through all the suggested ideas and choose the one which the two parties are willing to try.

Do not forget to try out the given solutions. They have to negotiate and compromise with whatever they have at hand. They should also give in their best efforts with the solution that they have come to a compromise with.

Do not be discouraged when the solution that they have worked out does not produce any non lethal conflict resolution. They have to brainstorm again then. They should look for another solution that they can use. If it ever comes to the point that there really is no solution possible for it, the two should just agree to disagree on that matter. However, they should not let their relationship break just because of this.
